About Charles Drew House

[North Campus (The Hill)] Originally the home of Amherst president Julius H. Seelye, remodeled in 1922 as a fraternity house, and dedicated in 1986 to honor Charles R. Drew, class of 1926 — the pioneering surgeon and founder of the first American Red Cross Blood Bank. Now serves as the Charles Drew Memorial Culture House, a theme community celebrating Black culture, intellectual debate, social activism, and artistic expression.
